No landing fees at Malta Airport this winter

News Tuesday, 08 November 2011 16:02 Written by Dominic Welling

Malta International Airport (MIA) has announced it will waive 100% of landing fees for all scheduled airlines during the winter schedule.

In an attempt to stimulate traffic during the winter months, between November 2011 and March 2012 Malta International Airport will scrap landing fees for airlines.

Austin Calleja, CEO of MIA, said that 2011 will be another record year for the gateway and that this incentive for commercial scheduled passenger traffic is designed to help “keep up the momentum reached thus far”.

He said: “With the success registered during this summer, we see the need to invest in the winter months by making it easier for airlines to operate to and from our airport. All our scheduled airlines will benefit from this initiative, and consequentially so will our tourism industry.”

Meanwhile, Calleja added that Malta International Airport is considering other incentive schemes for 2012 to continue investing in making the airport and consequentially Malta, more attractive for airlines to operate from.
