Boeing enters the Paris Air Show after strong momentum in May

As the Paris Air Show approaches, Boeing arrives with renewed confidence. In May 2025, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer recorded one of its best months in recent years, securing over 300 new orders and delivering 45 aircraft worldwide.

Major widebody order boosts backlog

Qatar Airways played a key role in Boeing’s surge, placing an order for 130 Dreamliners and 30 777X aircraft—marking the largest widebody commitment in the company’s history. Additional orders included 20 737 MAX jets from AviLease and seven from Canada’s WestJet. After minor cancellations, Boeing ended the month with a net gain of 300 aircraft and a total backlog of nearly 6,000 planes.

Production and delivery accelerate

Boeing delivered 45 aircraft in May, almost doubling its output compared to the same month last year. Deliveries included 31 737 MAX jets, seven 787 Dreamliners, five 777 freighters, one 767 freighter, and a P-8 Poseidon. This marks the fifth consecutive month with more than 40 aircraft delivered, indicating steady progress toward production targets.

737 MAX returns to China

Another notable milestone was the resumption of 737 MAX deliveries to Chinese airlines. These shipments had been paused for several years amid trade tensions, and their return suggests a thaw in regulatory and political hurdles between the two markets.

Focus on stability and safety

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg emphasized that maintaining consistent monthly output is now the company’s top priority. All FAA and internal quality controls have been passed, and Boeing is working closely with suppliers to ensure long-term reliability in its production lines.

Strong outlook despite past setbacks

While Boeing continues to navigate challenges—including past production issues and delivery delays—May’s performance marks a turning point. With a growing backlog and improving market confidence, the company is expected to showcase its progress prominently at the Paris Air Show, which runs from June 16 to 22.
