No injuries reported after incident near Dallas Center
A small ultralight aircraft went down Sunday evening in a rural part of Dallas County, Iowa. The crash happened while the plane was attempting to land at Husband Field Airport, just outside Dallas Center.
The pilot, Jerald Deimerly of Indianola, was alone in the aircraft. According to local authorities, he wasn’t injured. No fire was reported, and the wreckage was secured shortly after first responders arrived.
Federal agencies reviewing the crash
The FAA and NTSB have launched an investigation into what went wrong. For now, officials haven’t released any details about what may have caused the crash. Weather at the time wasn’t flagged as a factor, but that hasn’t been confirmed either.
A quiet type of aircraft, usually under the radar
Ultralight planes like the one involved in Sunday’s crash are commonly used for short, recreational flights. They don’t require a pilot’s license under FAA rules, and in many cases they aren’t tracked as closely as larger aircraft. Crashes are rare, but when they happen, investigations typically focus on mechanical failure, pilot experience, or flight conditions.
In this case, the outcome could have been much worse. For now, the pilot is safe, and the investigation continues.
