WestJet and Qatar Airways have signed a codeshare partnership that will let Canadian travellers book through itineraries to Doha and beyond under WestJet flight numbers, the Calgary-based carrier said on 26 October 2026. Under the initial phase of the agreement, WestJet will place its code on Qatar Airways’ non-stop flights to Doha from Toronto and Montreal.
What the agreement delivers
The arrangement introduces coordinated connections and through-checked baggage on codeshare bookings, and lets customers earn WestJet loyalty rewards across the entire itinerary, WestJet said. Qatar Airways will reciprocate by placing its QR flight code on selected WestJet-operated services out of Toronto Pearson International Airport and Montreal–Trudeau Airport.
- Booking and through-check: passengers on codeshare itineraries will have co-ordinated connections and through-checked baggage, WestJet said.
- Loyalty accrual: travellers can earn WestJet loyalty rewards for the full journey when booked on a codeshare itinerary.
- Network extension: Qatar Airways’ QR code on WestJet services will allow Doha connections to multiple Canadian cities.
Canadian destinations and network reach
WestJet said the agreement will permit Qatar Airways passengers to connect to 11 Canadian destinations, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, St. John’s and Winnipeg. Separately, a report of the deal noted Qatar Airways will place its code on selected WestJet services linking Toronto and Montreal with Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Regina, Saskatoon, St. John’s and Winnipeg, extending Doha connections across western, central and Atlantic Canada.

Context and strategic implications
WestJet framed the deal as making travel to Doha easier for its customers by placing its airline code onto Qatar Airways’ non-stop services from Canada’s two principal gateways. Qatar Airways, by placing its code on selected WestJet flights, gains access to a broader Canadian catchment without operating its own services to each city.
One report accompanying the announcement also linked the partnership to Qatar Airways’ stepped-up Canada operation, noting the Doha carrier had increased flights to Canada to two daily, reinforcing the significance of coordinated scheduling for connecting traffic.
The agreement is presented as an initial phase: WestJet said it plans to place its code on select Qatar Airways destinations beyond Doha as part of a future phase, though the carrier did not specify the timing or the routes for that expansion.
The deal expands both carriers’ options to sell connecting itineraries: WestJet customers gain access to Qatar Airways’ global network of more than 170 destinations through Doha, while Qatar Airways can feed traffic from nine or more Canadian points into its long-haul flows via WestJet’s domestic and transcontinental routes.
