Hong Kong will host Vinexpo Asia every year from 2027 through 2031 under a five-year agreement between the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and event organiser Vinexposium.

The memorandum of understanding changes the exhibition from an alternating arrangement into an annual event based exclusively in Hong Kong. The first edition under the new schedule is due to take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 8 to 10 June 2027.

Annual event replaces rotating schedule

Vinexpo Asia is a trade exhibition for wine and spirits producers, buyers and industry representatives across the Asia-Pacific region. The event had previously been held in Hong Kong every other year. Its new five-year run is intended to provide a regular meeting point for international suppliers and regional buyers.

The agreement was signed in Hong Kong by Anthony Lau, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and Déborah Sanchez, overseas events director at Vinexposium. The signing was witnessed by Peter Lam, chairman of the Tourism Board; Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Fabien Robert, deputy mayor of Bordeaux; and Philippe Tapie of the Bordeaux Gironde Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“Securing exclusive hosting rights reflects international industry confidence in the city while reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a regional trading hub and premier convention destination,” said Peter Lam, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

Tourism authorities and Vinexposium also plan to extend the event beyond the exhibition venue. The wider programme is expected to connect the trade show with Hong Kong’s retail, hospitality and dining sectors, with the stated aim of attracting business visitors and generating additional activity in the city.

Convention tourism and regional connections

According to the agreement, the planned benefits include:

  • an annual Hong Kong base for Vinexpo Asia through 2031;
  • closer links between global wine and spirits producers and Asia-Pacific buyers;
  • greater activity for local commerce, hospitality and dining businesses; and
  • a broader citywide programme combining the exhibition with gastronomy and cultural activity.

Lam said the arrangement builds on almost three decades of links between Hong Kong and Bordeaux, while also deepening ties with the international spirits market. He added that Vinexpo Asia and the Hong Kong Wine and Dine Festival would complement one another and support wider economic benefits for the city.

The agreement gives Hong Kong a fixed position on the event’s future calendar and reinforces the city’s role as a meeting point for international producers, buyers and business visitors in the Asia-Pacific market.
