Jet2 Charter has introduced a Boeing 737-800NG configured entirely with business-class seating, creating a dedicated premium aircraft for group and specialist charter customers. The aircraft is based at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and has capacity for 76 passengers.
The configuration represents a substantial reduction from the 189 seats installed on regular Jet2 aircraft of the same size. Each seat provides at least 43 inches of legroom, according to the charter division of the British low-cost airline. Jet2 does not offer business-class seating on its regular services, making the aircraft distinct from the carrier’s standard fleet product.
A specialist aircraft for group charters
Jet2 said the decision responds to demand from customers arranging travel for sports, music, entertainment and other specialist groups. The aircraft is intended for charter operations rather than for scheduled Jet2 services, allowing the operator to offer a single-cabin layout where additional space and a premium specification are required.
Trevor Caplis, head of charter and airline sales at Jet2, described the dedicated business-class configuration as a first for the company’s aircraft. He said feedback from charter customers who had travelled in the cabin had been very positive, particularly in relation to its premium feel, available space and comfort. Jet2 expects the aircraft to appeal strongly to charter clients during the winter.

Premium layouts gain attention
The move comes as several airlines examine ways to devote more aircraft space to premium cabins. The trend includes operators such as BeOnd and La Compagnie, which run all-business-class services, although Jet2 Charter’s aircraft is being positioned for specialist charter work rather than described as a regular scheduled operation.
Other recent cabin developments cited in the report include a new British Airways Airbus A380 design in which the entire upper deck is arranged with 106 business-class seats, alongside 12 first-class suites. Emirates has also unveiled what it described as the first electric premium-economy seat with a full-height privacy screen, while TAP Air Portugal introduced an economy prime product in June.
- The Jet2 Charter aircraft has 76 seats, compared with 189 on regular Jet2 aircraft of the same size.
- The aircraft is intended for sports, music, entertainment and specialist group charters.
- The dedicated premium layout is based at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and is expected to be used during the winter.
Qatar Airways chief executive Hamad Ali Al-Khater has also said that the airline is seriously considering premium-economy options. Against that backdrop, Jet2 Charter’s aircraft illustrates how cabin segmentation is extending beyond conventional long-haul premium products and into the charter market, where seating layouts can be tailored to the requirements of particular groups.
