Air Astana has started scheduled international flights linking Astana and Salalah, the Kazakh Ministry of Transport said on 24 October 2026. The airline used Airbus A320 aircraft for the inaugural sector; the ministry reported the Astana–Salalah flight carried 140 passengers. A day earlier, Air Astana operated an inaugural service from Almaty to Salalah, also with a full load.
Policy and bilateral framework
The ministry said the launch follows the signing of an air services agreement between Kazakhstan and Oman on 6 October, concluded during a meeting between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The ministry described the new links as part of the Head of State’s instructions to develop the aviation industry, expand international flight geography and strengthen Kazakhstan’s role as a transit aviation hub.
Operational and market context
Air services between the two countries were already present via the Almaty–Muscat route operated by Oman’s SalamAir, the ministry noted. The addition of Astana–Salalah and the Almaty–Salalah sectors is presented by the ministry as intended to support tourism, trade and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Oman.
