Qatar to debut Qsuite Next Gen on A350-1000 from mid-2027 after 777X delays

Qatar Airways will introduce its Qsuite Next Gen business-class cabin on Airbus A350-1000 aircraft from mid-2027, shifting the launch away from the deferred Boeing 777X as deliveries slipped.

Qatar Airways has moved the planned debut of its Qsuite Next Gen business-class cabin from the Boeing 777-9 to the Airbus A350-1000, saying the first installations will appear on about a dozen remaining A350 deliveries from mid-2027.

Change follows 777X certification and delivery slips

The carrier originally intended to fit the Next Gen Qsuite into new 777-9 aircraft, with deliveries of at least 60 777X frames previously expected to begin in late 2025. That schedule has slipped because the 777X has not been certified. Qatar now expects its first 777X delivery in late 2027 at the earliest, and will instead introduce the new cabin on remaining A350-1000 deliveries starting in mid-2027.

Product features and fleet implications

The revised rollout preserves the staggered forward- and rear-facing seat layout of the current Qsuite family while adding a number of enhancements. Planned features include a repositionable 4K OLED Panasonic Astrova inflight entertainment screen intended to create shared spaces for up to four passengers in a Quad Suite or two in a Companion Suite, plus digital privacy dividers, ambient lighting, additional storage and wireless charging.

Qatar has indicated that existing A350-1000s in its fleet are not currently slated for retrofit, meaning the new cabin will appear only on the non-delivered A350-1000s that form the remainder of the manufacturer’s delivery pipeline. The carrier also expects a first-class product to appear on the 777X.

  • Original plan: Qsuite Next Gen fitted to Boeing 777-9 (777X), deliveries from late 2025.
  • Revised plan: Qsuite Next Gen to debut on Airbus A350-1000 from mid-2027 on roughly a dozen undelivered A350s.
  • 777X timing: Qatar expects its first 777X delivery in late 2027 at the earliest.

Passenger experience and commercial consequences

The company’s decision means that travellers may encounter different business-class cabins across Qatar’s long-haul fleet while the 777X programme remains delayed. The redesigned shared spaces and larger beds aim to improve the offering for couples and groups, but the limited initial availability on a small number of A350-1000 deliveries could make the new cabin scarce at launch.

From an operational perspective, introducing the Next Gen product on A350-1000 frames rather than on the larger 777-9 will affect which routes and aircraft types carry the new cabin in the short term. Qatar’s wider rollout plans and any future retrofit programme for existing A350-1000s were not announced.
