Emirates will withdraw the Airbus A380 from three routes for the 2026/2027 northern hemisphere winter schedule, the carrier’s planned aircraft assignments show. The changes take effect as airlines move to the IATA winter slot season on 25 October 2026.
Which routes are affected
The airline will remove scheduled A380 operations on the following Dubai International (DXB) services:
- Dubai (DXB) – King Abdulaziz International (JED) — A380 replaced by Boeing 777-300ER; the route previously saw three daily A380 rotations.
- Dubai (DXB) – Washington Dulles International (IAD) — A380 replaced by Boeing 777-300ER.
- Dubai (DXB) – Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International (MED) — no scheduled A380 services this winter.
Context and scale
Data compiled by OAG shows 18 routes will no longer feature the A380 in winter 2026/27 compared with the previous winter. The change affects operators across the A380 fleet: eight of the world’s 10 scheduled A380 operators are listed as making at least one winter adjustment, and Emirates accounts for three of the route-level removals.
The Dubai–Jeddah pairing is notable because Emirates currently operates the A380 three times daily on the sector and, at about 919 nautical miles (1,702 kilometres), it is the shortest route on which the airline currently uses the superjumbo. Flight duties on that route will instead be flown by Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in the winter season.
Fleet note
Ch-aviation lists Emirates’ A380 fleet at 116 aircraft. The airline’s winter aircraft plan thus reflects selective redeployment of A380 flying rather than a network-wide withdrawal; affected flights will continue to operate with revised equipment.
| Carrier | Origin | Destination | Winter 2026/27 aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emirates | Dubai International (DXB) | King Abdulaziz International (JED) | Boeing 777-300ER (A380 removed) |
| Emirates | Dubai International (DXB) | Washington Dulles International (IAD) | Boeing 777-300ER (A380 removed) |
| Emirates | Dubai International (DXB) | Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International (MED) | No scheduled A380 services |
Industry schedule data and airline assignments typically shift at the change of IATA slot seasons; northern winter 2026/27 begins on 25 October 2026. The A380 remains deployed on numerous Emirates services, but the winter plan shows continued tactical adjustments to where the superjumbo is used.
For route planners and airport authorities, aircraft-type swaps of this kind alter capacity profiles, frequency economics and airport handling requirements. Emirates has indicated the affected services will continue but with revised equipment, and the redeployments form part of the broader winter scheduling picture for A380 operators worldwide.
