easyJet has launched a new route between London Southend Airport and Belfast City Airport, adding a three-times-weekly link between Essex and Northern Ireland to its UK network. The inaugural flight operated on 2 November, with services scheduled on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.

The route is intended to serve a mix of weekend travel, leisure journeys, visits to friends and family and business traffic. It gives passengers in Essex and the wider South East of England a direct option to Belfast, while adding another destination to the schedule at London Southend Airport.

The schedule operates on three days of the week, giving the service a weekend-oriented pattern while retaining availability for business and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic. The announcement does not identify an aircraft type for the route.

London Southend Airport said its rail connections provide access to central London, while Belfast City Airport is close to Belfast city centre. The two airports are therefore being positioned as access points for their respective city regions, rather than as links serving only their immediate airport catchment areas.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Belfast to our growing route network.”

Nigel Mayes, business development director at London Southend Airport, said the service would strengthen connections between communities and provide more choice for travellers. He also described the launch as evidence of easyJet’s continued investment at the airport and its growth across Essex, London and surrounding areas.

Further domestic capacity

Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said the service would give customers more choice and value when travelling between the two regions. The route expands easyJet’s domestic operation at a time when the airline is adding another direct connection between two parts of the UK outside the established London airport network.

  • Flights operate on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
  • The connection links London Southend Airport with Belfast City Airport.
  • The route is aimed at leisure, business and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic.

The service also provides access to Northern Ireland’s wider tourism market, including the Causeway Coast and the Giant’s Causeway, according to the route announcement. Its immediate aviation significance is the addition of scheduled domestic capacity from London Southend and a new airport pairing for easyJet.
