Wizz Air will begin operating flights from Madrid to Málaga and Seville on 6 November, adding domestic air links between the Spanish capital and Andalusia while rail services remain disrupted following the collision near Urda, Toledo, on 28 October.

Two daily flights on each connection

The low-cost carrier plans to operate two flights a day on each route. Across the two city pairs, that represents four scheduled daily flight sectors. Wizz Air has not specified an aircraft type in the announcement.

Wizz Air said the additional capacity is intended to provide an alternative for passengers affected by the interruption to rail services on the Madrid–Seville corridor. The disruption followed a collision involving a Renfe high-speed train and an Iryo train near Urda. Services between Madrid and Andalusia, including Ciudad Real, have been affected.

The airline has set fares for the new flights at €45.99 to €99.99. Wizz Air said the upper limit was established to offer a practical transport option while passengers faced reduced rail availability. The airline identified family visits, work travel and other necessary journeys among the trips for which passengers might require an alternative.

Additional capacity during rail disruption

András Radó, Wizz Air’s director of communications, said passengers needed dependable transport options while the rail interruption continued. The airline’s announcement places the two routes within a specific response to the disruption, rather than presenting them as a wider expansion of its Spanish network.

The accident occurred on 28 October near Urda in Toledo and involved the Renfe and Iryo trains operating on the Madrid–Seville corridor. Spain’s government declared three days of official mourning, running through 31 October. The new Wizz Air services are due to start after that mourning period, with the airline’s planned schedule focused on restoring travel options between Madrid and the two Andalusian destinations.

  • Madrid–Málaga: launch planned for 6 November, with two daily flights.
  • Madrid–Seville: launch planned for 6 November, with two daily flights.
  • Published fares: from €45.99, with a maximum of €99.99.
