Plaza Premium Group is preparing to open a 113-seat lounge at Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2 in early December, creating the airport’s first independent pay-per-use lounge in its domestic precinct. The facility will be available to departing passengers regardless of the airline they are using, their ticket class or their frequent-flyer status.

The opening is scheduled to coincide with the completion of Sydney Airport’s AU$200 million Terminal 2 redevelopment. T2 is used by several major domestic carriers and serves high-volume routes including Sydney–Melbourne and Sydney–Brisbane. The domestic precinct across Terminals 2 and 3 handles more than 25 million passengers a year.

Access open to all departing passengers

Entry to the new lounge will start at AU$54. Passengers will be able to reserve access in advance or pay on the day as walk-in customers. The arrangement differs from airline-operated lounges, where access is generally tied to a particular carrier, fare type, frequent-flyer tier or membership scheme.

Plaza Premium Group said the 545m² lounge will include quiet workspaces, high-speed connectivity, locally inspired food and drink, barista coffee and a full-service bar. The company’s investment programme in Australia is valued at AU$20 million and marks its tenth year operating in the country.

“The new lounge is giving passengers more choice in how they experience the airport and forms part of our broader transformation of the domestic precinct, with new retail, dining and passenger experiences creating a more contemporary T2,” said Mark Zaouk, Sydney Airport’s group executive commercial.

Part of a wider Australian programme

The Sydney opening forms part of Plaza Premium Group’s plans to expand and upgrade its Australian domestic lounge network. The group also operates facilities at airports in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. In Brisbane, it is rebuilding and redesigning its international lounge, while a domestic lounge is also planned at Cairns Airport.

The Brisbane project comes as Brisbane Airport prepares for anticipated growth ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Plaza Premium Group entered Australia in 2016 with an independent international lounge at Brisbane Airport.

  • The Sydney facility will be open to passengers on any airline departing from Terminal 2.
  • Access will not depend on ticket class or frequent-flyer status.
  • Passengers can book ahead or use the lounge on a walk-in basis.
  • The facility is scheduled to open in early December alongside the completion of the T2 redevelopment.

At Sydney Airport’s Terminal 3, Qantas operates a Qantas Club and a Business Lounge. Qantas passengers who do not otherwise qualify for access can purchase a single-entry pass for the domestic Club, but that option is linked to travelling on a Qantas ticket. Plaza Premium’s new Terminal 2 facility will instead operate independently of the airline being used.
