LOT brings 22 years of Embraer E170 operations to a close

LOT Polish Airlines is retiring its final Embraer E170 after more than two decades, ending the Polish carrier’s operation of the smallest E-Jet variant while retaining a broader Embraer fleet.

LOT Polish Airlines has brought its operation of the Embraer E170 to a close after more than 22 years, with the carrier’s final aircraft scheduled to make a last passenger rotation between Warsaw and Vienna on 30 October 2026.

Final rotation mirrors the type’s arrival

The aircraft, registered SP-LDH, was scheduled to operate from Warsaw to Vienna and back. The routing mirrors the E170’s commercial debut with LOT on 17 March 2004, when the Polish airline became the first operator worldwide to introduce the type.

LOT’s first E170, SP-LDA, had arrived in Warsaw on 8 March 2004 and remained with the airline until 2014. The fleet eventually reached 10 aircraft, which the carrier said collectively transported 13.8 million passengers across nearly 300,000 flights.

Smallest E-Jet leaves a continuing Embraer fleet

The E170 aircraft were configured with between 70 and 76 seats in a two-by-two cabin. LOT deployed them on domestic and European services, including links to Prague, Copenhagen and Budapest, giving the aircraft a role across the carrier’s shorter-haul network.

The retirement removes the smallest member of the E-Jet family from LOT’s active fleet, but does not mark the end of the airline’s relationship with Embraer. LOT continues to operate a mixed fleet comprising E175s, E190s, E195s and E195-E2s.

  • The E170 was LOT’s first Embraer E-Jet variant.
  • The carrier became the type’s first operator globally in March 2004.
  • LOT’s remaining Embraer fleet includes four other E-Jet variants.

Technology introduced to LOT’s fleet

When the E170 entered service, it brought winglets and fully electronic fly-by-wire flight controls to LOT’s fleet. Its two-by-two seating arrangement and capacity made the aircraft suitable for the domestic and European routes on which the carrier operated it.

The final departure therefore closes a specific chapter in LOT’s fleet history rather than ending its use of regional and smaller-capacity Embraer aircraft. The E175, E190, E195 and E195-E2 remain in the airline’s fleet after the E170’s withdrawal.
