Central China Longhao Airlines has started its first route to the UK, adding twice-weekly freighter capacity between Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport and East Midlands Airport (EMA).
The carrier’s inaugural Boeing 747-400 freighter arrived at East Midlands from Zhengzhou, establishing a new air-cargo connection between Henan Province and the UK. The route gives the Chinese airline a direct presence in the British market and adds another operator to an airport that is positioning itself as a national freight gateway.
New China capacity at East Midlands
The service is scheduled to operate twice a week. East Midlands Airport did not disclose the cargo volumes or the shippers using the route, but the launch comes as the airport reports a rise in recent freight activity. Cargo volumes in September were 6.3% higher, an increase of 36,000 tonnes, than in September last year.
| Carrier | Origin | Destination | Start | Frequency | Aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Central China Longhao Airlines | Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport | East Midlands Airport (EMA) | Inaugural flight completed on 4 November 2026 | Twice weekly | Boeing 747-400 freighter |
The airport said the new operation reflects continuing interest from cargo carriers in using East Midlands as an entry point for the UK. Its central location and round-the-clock operating capability were cited alongside available capacity as factors supporting the airport’s cargo proposition.
“We're really pleased to welcome Central China Langhao as a new airline operating to East Midlands as its gateway into the UK.”
Adam Andrews, commercial director at East Midlands Airport, said the airline’s decision provided further evidence of the airport’s position in the Chinese air-cargo market. He added that the airport was continuing to attract operators that valued its location, capacity and 24/7 operation.
Airline expands European footprint
Central China Longhao Airlines was restructured and established by Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Group in 2019. It is a state-owned airline and the main base carrier in Henan Province, where it has played a role in the development of the Zhengzhou international air-cargo hub.
The airline operates across Asia and into Europe. Its new East Midlands service extends that network into the UK, while the use of a 747-400 freighter provides dedicated main-deck capacity on the route. The airport has also advertised for a new head of cargo development as it works on longer-term growth plans.
